Borderless Space: Chris’ time in New York City was time he spent in borderless space. Not in terms of NYC being a hub for global culture and commerce, although it’s surely borderless in this respect too. Rather, his stint in New York City was spent organizing form, and light, meaning, objects, enduring histories and fleeting moments…all of which, more often than not, manifested themselves to him as if melded together without border between each concept, without clear distinction between “this” and “that”. Although his time in the Big Apple was quite brief ( under 1.5 years) before returning to his home city of Portland to fight a newly diagnosed battle with cancer, the imagery he captured and placed in this legacy piece of work in undeniably epic.
